Strategy overview
The Aviation Skills Formation Strategy covered the aviation and aerospace industry state-wide and included operations, education and training, airports, manufacturing, maintenance engineering, logistics, the growing simulation and the emerging UAV industries.
The research and consultation phase identified key workforce issues facing the industry, these included:

Recognised national qualifications for other aircraft trades

Retention in remote areas

Inconsistent training standards
Outcomes

The development of a school-based multi disciplined traineeship program with a Certificate II in Aviation qualification.

A structured work experience program model is being developed by the Australasian Aviation Group Cairns Workforce Development Working Party to improve management, school access and student participation to industry.

Formation of the Industry Leaders Council, Brisbane Workforce Development Party and regional business units.
