Monday, 21 November 2011
Recently, the Industry Leaders Group of the Retail-Mackay Skills Formation Strategy project was launched in August 2011 with over 60 people in attendance including a diverse range of retailers, including shopping centre managers, pharmacy agency proprietors, homewares and hardware show owners, small business and fast food retailers.
Branded as Retail Connect Mackay, the leaders group provides retailers with information and support regarding workforce attraction, retention and succession planning. For more information visit Retail Connect Mackay
The Retail-Mackay Skills Formation Strategy is hosted by the Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDC) and is working with Retail Connect to focus on the following activities:
-
Promotion of local online job board Coal to Coast Jobs, increasing the number of registered jobseekers and employers.
-
Launch of the new retail industry leader's group - Retail Connect. The group will host information sessions and networking events for retail employers and implement a workforce development strategy on behalf of the industry.
-
Targeting of the Hidden Workforce, including stay at home mothers, semi-retirees and university students, through events like the hugely popular Getting Back into the Workforce Information Sessions.
-
Continued promotion of school-based traineeships to students in Years 10 to 12.
-
Continued promotion of retail training programs.
-
Improvement of training courses provided locally through providing feedback from local retailers to training providers.
